I am Dylan Gemma, a recent graduate of the University of Colorado at Boulder with a bachelor's degree in computer science. I spent my first two years in Boulder studying physiology, ultimately realizing my natural ability and attraction to computer science. While taking courses year-round to catch up on degree requirements, I enjoyed running and climbing in the beautiful Rocky Mountains that surround Boulder.
Growing up in a small Southern California beach town, I always had a deep appreciation for the mountains and loved exploring them. I discovered running at an early age, as it was the best means of exploration for my curious mind. By the age of fourteen I had convinced my parents to let me run the Carlsbad Marathon, which I trained for and ran by myself. Finishing in three and a half hours, and winning race within the 0-20 year old age division, I was hooked. I went on to run cross-country and track for four years, and again run the Carslbad Marathon before graduating high school. Applying to colleges consisted of finding the best place to further my goals and ambitions in running, which, upon seeing the town from the U.S. Route 36 Highway, I knew was Boulder, CO.
Attending the University of Colorado at Boulder was a dream come true for me. I could attend class, do my homework, and run up a 3,000ft mountain all before the sun went down. I was immediately drawn to the community and atmosphere in Boulder, and felt right at home. Resulting from my incredible experience at CU, I decided to stay in Boulder and pursue work in the computer science field.
